Individual Therapy (Psychology Support)
- Psychology appointments
- Initial & Subsequent sessions
- Private, Medicare (where eligible), NDIS, WorkCover & ADF pathways
Individual therapy gives you a private, supportive space to talk through what you’re experiencing—without judgment and at your own pace. At HMCE, individual therapy is delivered within our Psychology services through structured appointments focused on understanding concerns, clarifying goals, and developing practical coping strategies that support everyday life.
This page is designed to match the appointment types shown in our booking system (for example, Initial Appointment and Subsequent Appointment, plus relevant funding pathways where applicable). We avoid promising specific services that are not listed in bookings; instead, we explain how individual therapy may work within standard psychology care and how to select the most appropriate appointment type.
What Individual Therapy Can Help With
People seek therapy for many reasons. Some have a clear concern they want to work on; others simply know they’re not feeling like themselves. Individual sessions can support emotional wellbeing, clearer thinking, healthier coping, and stronger personal boundaries.
- Anxiety, worry, stress, or feeling overwhelmed
- Low mood, burnout, reduced motivation, or emotional exhaustion
- Self-esteem, confidence, and self-criticism
- Work pressure, performance stress, or major life transitions
- Grief, loss, relationship stress, or difficult life events
- Emotional regulation (anger, shutdown, rumination, or frequent conflict)
- Building boundaries, communication skills, and healthier coping habits
What Happens in an Initial Appointment
The Initial Appointment is usually the first session if you are new to HMCE. It provides a structured starting point where the psychologist will explore what’s been happening, what feels most urgent, and what you want from therapy. This may include gathering relevant background information, discussing current stressors, identifying strengths and supports, and clarifying practical goals.
You don’t need to prepare the “perfect story.” It’s normal to feel unsure where to begin. Your psychologist will guide the conversation so the session feels supportive, clear, and manageable.
What Happens in Subsequent Appointments
Subsequent Appointments focus on ongoing support and progress toward your goals. Sessions may include skill-building, coping strategies, communication tools, emotional regulation techniques, and reflective work that helps you understand patterns and make change. Your psychologist will regularly review how things are going and adjust goals to match your needs.
How Therapy Is Tailored to You
Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Sessions are guided by your goals, values, and circumstances, with approaches chosen based on what’s clinically appropriate. Some people prefer practical strategies and tools; others need space to process and make sense of what’s happened. Many benefit from a blend of both.
Funding Pathways and Booking Options
HMCE’s booking categories list appointment types and funding pathways. Individual therapy is accessed through those same Psychology options. To avoid confusion: choose the appointment type that matches your funding pathway and whether it’s your first session or an ongoing session.
- Private (Full Fee) — choose the relevant Initial or Subsequent Psychology appointment.
- Medicare Bulk Billed (where eligible) — choose the listed Medicare bulk billed option (Initial or Subsequent as shown).
- NDIS Psychology — choose NDIS Psychology Session – Initial or NDIS Psychology Session – Subsequent.
- WorkCover — choose the WorkCover appointment type (Initial or Subsequent as listed).
- ADF — choose ADF Initial or ADF – Subsequent as displayed under services.
If you’re unsure which option applies, contact HMCE before booking. We can help you choose the appointment type that best matches your pathway and what’s listed in our booking system.
Reports and Documentation (When Required)
Where applicable and clinically appropriate, HMCE provides report services that appear in the booking system, including NDIS Report Writing and Report Writing – WorkCover. These are booked separately from therapy sessions and prepared in line with relevant requirements and available clinical information.
